KING SALMON FISHING

King Salmon fishing in the Kenai River is catch and release only.  The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is forecasting the lowest first run of king salmon in the last 28 years. Although it is the author's belief that this run does not show up in the Kenai in any decent numbers until the end of the second week in June, the numbers as of June 6, do not look good.  According to the new sonar counter, only 345 kings have passed by the sonar. If the numbers do not pick up shortly, we believe that the Department will and should close the Kenai River to king salmon fishing until the end of June.  This decision ony affects the first run which is through the end of June.

We will provide an update as soon as any new informatin is available.
