KROG'S KAMP

CHINOOK SALMON FISHING
"Kings"

At left, guide Shella holds a 75 pound chrome bright king.

The month of May starts the summer sportfishing season on the Kenai Peninsula. King salmon fishing begins in May and continues through the end of July. The world record king salmon was caught in the Kenai River on May 17, 1985 and weighed in at 97 pounds 4 ounces. Each year there are fish caught that come close to the record but to date, the 1985 record still stands. We fish kings in the salt waters of Cook Inlet during the early part of the season and then in the Kenai and Kasilof Rivers. King salmon flyout fishing trips are also available. These trips generally provide the angler with an opportunity to catch and release many kings before deciding on a keeper. Flyout trips are wade fisheries unlike the Kenai and Kasilof Rivers and are generally in fairly remote areas of our state. Below are just a couple of kings brought in by our guests.
